Amazônia Legal
According to a bill of the Brazilian government, that president Lula still has to submit to the congress for investigation, at the most 10% of the surface of the region of the Legal Amazon may in future be owned by foreigners. Presently the figure is maximum 25% independent of the region.
The new limit is valid for the purchase of real estate by foreigners in the region, which covers the Federal States of Amazonas, Acre, Rondônia, Mato Grosso, Tocantins, Roraima, Amapá, Pará and a part of the Maranhão, while in the rest of the country the old percentage should be retained. The delimitation will be effective thereby for three categories: for foreigners, who live in Brazil, for foreign legal entities with seat in the country as well as for Brazilian legal entities, who are controlled by foreign capital. This is the legal solution, in order to stop the foreign invasion in Amazonia and to speak about national sovereignty.
The point at issue of the land purchase by a Brazilian citizen married to a foreigner was left to the regulation in the congress. Natural persons without domicile in Brazil as well as legal entities without permission to operate in Brazil in the future shall be excluded from the land acquisition. The surface of foreign property in whole Brazil currently adds up on 36.620 km². The total area of the country amounts to 8.547.404 km².
